They get to see you being <em>you. </em>They get to see the person they will rehearse with, the person they will get to direct. This is the person who will be there during long tech weeks, and all-day rehearsals.</p> <p>So don’t show them Hamlet or Miss Adelaide or whatever. Show them you. They can see Hamlet when you are actually doing your scene/monologue. A lot of new actors tend to do this.</p> <p>For the record, your face is very important. Facial expressions convey characters, attitudes, and emotions.  I realize that one needs to have a script in order to read the lines, but if you bury your entire HEAD in your script, the folks behind the table won’t be able to see your facial expressions. Do us all a favor and keep it about waist level—far from the face—and do the occasional glance downwards to read your lines.
